Christmas Ornaments

Just Me and My Life

T. G. I. F.!!!

I love this week’s Friday Fives theme: Show me 5 of your favorite Ornaments that you have!

I’ve said before that our family is a Hallmark Christmas tree family; every year we each get an ornament to add to our ever-growing collection. Unfortunately, because I’m at school I can’t show you my favorite ones—but I’m going to share some similar ones from Hallmark’s website.

I have my very first Christmas ornament.

And a ballerina or two.

A Winnie-the-Pooh one.

And a collection of adorable penguins.

The one this college gal desires the most for this year is…

The penguins all rotate around as the music box plays “Let It Snow!” I’m such a child at heart!!

Join me at Beth’s bloggie to check out everyone’s favorite Christmas ornaments!

Random Friday Fives

It is finally Friday!! Woo hoo! Let’s celebrate with Friday Fives.

Just Me and My Life

This week’s theme is 5 Random Things. And since I’m pretty random, I’d say this is going to be a pretty fun post!

5. I am already dreaming, hoping, and wishing for SNOW! I can’t wait for a wonderland of white to descend upon us once more. Like last year, I’m pretty sure we’re going to be seeing a lot of Mr. Snow. Which is a-oh-kay with this girl!

image

4. This evening is our convo with J.R. Martinez aka as All My Children’s Brot Monroe. Aside from his day job, J.R. works as an inspirational speaker discussing his childhood and military career. I’m quite excited to hear about his life and everything else he plans to share with us.

It is always interesting to learn about different peoples’ walks in life. It will be especially interesting since I’ll have watched him on TV just a few hours before he’s on our campus in the flesh. A few lucky ducky students get to eat with him and I’m quite jealous!

image

3. After the convo, the lovely T and I will be traveling to my house in preparation for the VHSL Cheer Competition on Saturday at VCU. The little sister will be competing there once again this year. Let’s Go Warriors!!!

This is Bekah at the VHSL Cheer Competition last year; she’s the girl in the middle.

2. I’m crossing my fingers and praying for this lovely lady as she tries once again to fulfill her biggest dream ever. (You can click on the picture to visit her site!)

1. I cannot believe that my first semester in college is almost over! Just a few weeks left. It’s scary how time flies around here. I have to keep reminding myself to enjoy it while I breeze through week after week…I’m going to be a grown-up very soon!

See that was fun, wasn’t it?

I hope everyone has a great Friday and a terrific weekend!! :)

A Random Friday Fives

Anyone up for some Friday Fives this week? I certainly am!

Just Me and My Life

What’s this week’s topic you ask? Randoms! It’s random question week.

So let’s get this blog party started!

1. What’s your go to recipe?
Thanks to the well-stocked KCC, here at Bridgewater, I don’t ever really have a need to cook. So I’m going to go with my favorite go-to meal; when in doubt I always go with the yummy Caesar salad and a side of pears!

image image

2. When you hear "American food" what comes to mind?

The first thing I think of is carnival food! Yummy corn dogs, funnel cakes, snowcones. How American is that?

image   image

3. What would you say is one of your "weirdest" quirks?

Oh my wonderful roommate, T, has picked up on this…when  I hiccup or make any sound similar to it, I actually saw hiccup. I don’t know where, why, when, or how this started, but I guess I do it!

4.What color do you mainly wear?

Black. Love it! A black tee or black sweater paired with a scarf or some other accessory are my last minute, can’t think of anything else outfits. There’s just something about black that makes me feel classy, put together, and sophisticated.

5. Always have to say everything on your mind or never speak again?

Totally depends on the situation. I like to speak my mind a lot, but I’m also known to hold my tongue when it comes to certain things. I guess I would have to go with the latter, though.

Happy Friday!! Have a great weekend :)

Friday Fives . . . TV Time!

Can you believe that it’s Friday…again?!?

This week has flown by for me! It’s been a rainy week. I knew our campus was known to flood, but man. There was a river flowing across our quad, complete with rippling currents.

My rainy week has come to a quick end, but before I can partake in all our EP events this weekend (including Miss Bridgewater and The Glow Dance), it’s time for my favorite Friday morning ritual…Friday Fives with Beth!

Just Me and My Life

This week’s theme is…5 shows that are coming back on fall that you have missed over the Summer! That's right we are talking TV AGAIN!!!

5. Grey’s Anatomy

imageMcDreamy, McSteamy, Alex Korev…mmmm. How can you not want to just watch Grey’s?

And the drama! Oh me, oh my. The girls and I were quite squeal-y during last week’s season premiere. And how can you not be? The secrets, the revelations, the healing, the love.

It’s Grey’s.

And it makes the best transition to Friday!

4. Bones

Can I just say, David Boreanaz (Am I sensing a theme here)? image

Booth, Bones, and the other Jeffersonian lab rats have a special place in my hearts.

The cases, the crimes, the friendships.

Everyone needs a little Bones in their life.

3. Gossip Girl

imageChuck Bass.

Dan Humphrey.

Gossip.

Tiffany’s.

Headbands and bows.

2. GLEE!

Good music, awesome dancing, and Finn Hudson.

Who doesn’t love Journey?? And Britney! Ah. I love it so!!

image

1. Brothers and Sisters

Ahhh. I’ve shared with you my love of the ABC drama, Brothers and Sisters many times before. And my infatuation hasn’t dimmed in the wake of summer.

Their family dynamic and beautiful homes. Their friendships and their marriages.

There’s just something about the Walkers that makes me want to be just like them!

    image image image

And because you know how I love me some TV time…

One Tree Hill, Big Love & Desperate Housewives!

Friday Five . . . Question Time!

Just Me and My Life

I missed Friday Five last week, but I’m back on the wagon today! Oh, how I’ve missed you!

It’s question time once again on Friday Five…definitely one of my favorite prompts :)

1. What's your "comfort food"?

Hmmm. One “comfort food”. I wouldn’t say I have just one comfort food, but rather just crave different things at different times. However, if I’m ever feeling down, oimagen the brink of a headache or just plain blah, I reach for a Coke. Sooo I’d say my comfort food/drink is the yummy, delicious goodness of Coca-Cola.

2.One thing that’s on your mind right now?

All I have to do before going home for the first time in a MONTH!!! Emptying the trash, packing up weekend wear, waiting for  SB to get out of class so she can tag along, too. Trying to finish up homework so I can enjoy a weekend at home. Unfortunately, momma, laundry will have to be done when I get home---but don’t you worry, SB and I have it down to science!

3.What's the best advice you've ever received?

Best advice I’ve ever received. Now that’s a toughy.  The thing that sticks out the most in my mind is the words of the VCU nurse who came and did a Welcome Week presentation with us entitled, Twinkies, Tylenol & Beer Puzzle. It can relate to soooo many different situations that we find ourselves in.

“If it’s wet and not yours, don’t touch it!”

4.If you found $10 today, what would you do with it?

Save it of course! I’m a college student and I need ever scrap I can rake up! (I might, however, in a moment of weakness, invite the Quad to Dairy Queen for a Blizzard—it’s extremely warm here for the end of September!) image

5. What is your least favorite thing to clean in your house?

Let’s change this to the least favorite thing to clean in your dorm room ;)

I don’t mind cleaning the dorm room, however, cleaning the bathrooms would stink! But thankfully, we have an awesome group of ladies that take care of our bathrooms and hallways each day. We’re so incredibly lucky!

Another great week of Friday Five with Beth! Check out everyone’s answers and celebrate the wrap-up of Beth’s giveaway!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

A Fourth Grader's Perspective

Just Me and My Life

It’s a sad week for Friday Five. But on the other hand, it is an extremely important one for the American people.

Because we will never forget the tragedy that ensued nine years ago, tomorrow.

It will forever be on the hearts and minds of the American people, even as time passes.

For me, a then fourth grader, my memories of September 11th are probably a lot different then most. Some of the details are hazy. And children, I’ve been taught through so many English classes, tend to me the most unreliable witnesses. We miss the cues, the true meanings of things.

Here are the five things I remember about September 11th.

1. It was, in our classroom at least, a normal Tuesday. We did our class work, went to gym, had lunch. To this day, I don’t remember that many kids being picked up early (we’re about 60-90 minutes from D.C.), but I’m guessing many did. I don’t remember the teacher’s soft whispers between classrooms, the TV’s quickly turned off when we returned from resource.

2. It wasn’t until dismissal that afternoon that I first began to realize something was going on. Our principal had an afternoon announcement (a rare occurrence), and while I don’t remember everything she said that afternoon, I do remember that she wanted us to remember we were always safe at school.

3. My little sister and I rode home to the babysitter’s, full of questions. I wanted to know what was going on, but Miss Mary promised me my mom would tell me when she came to pick us up.

4. The scenes after Miss Mary’s promise are hazy. Somehow Bekah and I were home with my dad, my mom home late from work. But there is one thing I will never forget about September 11th, and that was how the sunset shone over the top of my mom’s white van as she still sat in the driver’s seat and explained to my sister and I that there had been plane crashes. That night we watched that news together and that was the first time I saw all the footage of the planes crashing.

image

5. A few days later, I remember asking my mother for certainty that if the bad guys died when they crashed the planes, then weren’t all the bad guys dead? I don’t really remember her answer. I’ve realized since that the bad guys are, in fact, not dead. And probably won’t be for a long time. Because the bad guys aren’t just bad people, but rather more then that. They are terrorists; they are terrorism. And I fear that that will be something that my children’s children will too fear.

Fridge Finds

Just Me and My Life

It’s my second Friday here in Bridgewater and I’m celebrating with Beth’s latest Friday Five challenge. Woo hoo!!  :)

This week’s challenge is Five Things That are Always in Your Fridge.

For me, always really means the last week.

So let’s start off with my fridge. (Sorry for the bad picture!)

DSC_0020

My roomie brought the cutest little fridge for our dorm room. It is crazy how many compliments we have received for the unique and petite fridge. It really is too cute!

Now onto the list…duh duh duh!!

image1. Water

It is so flippin’ hot here! Our dorm is not  air conditioned and being on the third floor, it is sticky icky hot. So we drink, and drink, and drink…water, of course!

image

2. Juice

Hawaiian punch. Capri Sun. Gotta break up the rehydration sessions with some juice. After a trek across campus, juice definitely hits the spot!

image3. Diet Coke

The roomie’s preferred soda…and mine. I’m trying to stick to one soda a day and it’s working pretty well so far!

image

4. Fruit cups

Who doesn’t love a good fruit cup? Pears? Yes, please! A healthy snack, too!

image5. Candy

Left in the fridge, (I wouldn’t dare leave it out for fear it would melt!) candy is that something sweet to cool you off and boost your energy in this sweltering sauna. A bite of chocolate and you’re rejuvenated.

Another fun week of Friday Five! Beth’s got some neat stuff up her sleeves so you definitely don’t wanna miss September’s Friday Five :)

Time to Go

It’s Friday!

That means it’s move-in day for me here at Bridgewater.

And it also means that it’s party time with Beth!

This week’s Friday Five is Random Question Week.

Just Me and My Life

1. Something you are OCD about?image

Oh goodness. I hate to admit it, but I’m pretty OCD about EVERYTHING!

My books are color coordinated. All my files alphabetically arranged…even on my Blackberry.

My sister once joked that I couldn’t go to bed with a sock on the floor or a pen out of place. And…she’s right. But I’m getting better…I think.

2. Your favorite quote?

Remember this post?

I love quotes! Love them. And my favorites rotate frequently. But there are two that will forever be my most favorite favorite.

“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” (Princess Diana)

"Every song has a coda, a final movement. Whether it fades out or crashes away, every song ends. Is that any reason not to enjoy the music?" (One Tree Hill)

imageimage

 3. What is the farthest you have been from home?

Los Angeles, California. Alllll the way across the country from my front door!

image

4. Do you do a real or fake Christmas tree?

Hmm. We had real ones when we were little, but due to allergies (yucky!), we stick to fake ones. Both pre-lit with white lights.

5. First blog you ever read?

Oh goodness. That would have to be Kelly's and Matt's! First bloggies I ever read. And still do!

Yay! How was fun that??

Once I’m settled into my dorm room I will definitely be checking out all the other Friday Five-ers! And you should, too :)

Teen Scene Reminder: The weekend is nearly here…let’s get those discussions started!! Ha :)

Friday Five - Dream House

Just Me and My Life

It’s Friday! And you know what that means…Friday Fives with Beth!

This week’s theme (Five Things About Your Dream Home) has got to be one of my most favorites yet! I love every thing house and home. I probably spend far to much time planning for my future one…

front         first level  second level

Is it crazy to say that I’m 18, and have for at least three years, known this would be my future house (1)? From the yellow siding, to the rocking chairs, and the white picket fence. It is home.

The size (2) is quite perfect. Not too big. Not too small. And with room to grow!

As to the location (3) of my future dream home, that has yet to be decided. I’m thinking somewhere on the East Coast. North Carolina? Virginia?

image

However, I do know one thing. The kitchen (4) in my dream house will look much like the all-inspiring mother, Nora Walker, from Brothers & Sisters. The white cabinets. The huge island. Beautiful.

image            image image image

And my dream house, Lord willing, will be full of many little (Croc-covered) feet (5).

image

How much fun was that? I can’t wait to visit Beth’s bloggie to hear about everyone’s dream homes. You should join me :)
