Our "Christmas Eve"

A few weeks ago, the girls and I scheduled our “Christmas” for Sunday. We had exchanged names prior to Thanksgiving, with a list of small gift ideas for our Secret Santa. I, however, knew that I was going to be going totally off of personality inspiration!

By Saturday, with the stress of finals looming over head, we were ready for a distraction just like “Christmas.” So since it was, in fact, the day before our “Christmas,” it was dubbed “Christmas Eve” and the celebrations began.

It was planned, that after a day spent writing papers, we would spend the evening in our Christmas pajamas, M would spend the night—to ensure a Christmas morning together—and we would settle in for hot chocolate and movies. And as it would be, snow found me once again. It was perfect timing! We were just settling in to start watching Princess and the Frog when the snow started to fall.

It was the perfect distraction from papers and exams!! And “Christmas” was just as great—with breakfast and the giving of gifts before buckling down and getting back to work. Now I’m just ready for these next few days to fly by so that I can get home for the real Christmas!Hurry up Thursday!!

I want to be happy, so I will be happy.

My, oh, my has this week been the longest, fastest week ever. I can’t believe that tomorrow is FRIDAY!

Our Christmas Break countdown is down to 7 (just hours from 6) and my last day of classes is tomorrow. I cannot believe how fast time seems to be flying around here. I blink and another day is done. In the words of Meredith Grey, “…how do we make it stop?”

It has been a trying week, both academically and emotionally. With classes coming to a close, the pressure of final exams and papers is looming overhead. Thankfully, however, our homework weekend prior to Thanksgiving Break left myself ahead of the curve and with a lot less to try and accomplish this weekend—a load off of my mind!

On the emotional front, a member of the Quad has become quite distant, quite randomly and quite suddenly. For what reason the rest of us cannot seem to identify. We have each approached her at different times to try and come to terms with the distance—find an answer really—but with little luck. Just reassurance from her that it is nothing we have done and that she is simply  busy. Ouch.

So we’re left scratching our heads at the baffling absence and mourning the one who should be here to complete our set.

We’re all trying to keep each other going with lots of jokes, laughter, and tokens of appreciation. Because without these ladies I don’t know how on Earth I would have gotten through this first semester. And I try and remind them how grateful I am to have them in my life every single day. (Meredith—you rock!)

We are determined to have a great, last weekend together before Break, full of Christmas movies, homework, Christmas music, some more homework, and our very own little Christmas on Sunday.

I want to be happy, so I will be happy.

To end, the words of One Tree Hill’s Julian Baker, “Happiness is not a destination. It is a mood, it is not permanent. It comes and goes and if people thought that way then maybe people would find happiness more often.”

Christmas Has Arrived at BC

DSC_0018

We got back yesterday and we’re already counting down the days until Christmas break. It is only ten days away, you know. One more week of classes and then four days of finals and homebound I will be! I cannot believe that my first semester as a college student is nearly over.

Can you guess what we did during our first night of being reunited?? If you guessed decorate for Christmas, then you’re right! Way to go; here’s a prize in the mail for you already.

We made Christmas ornaments and decorated the tree that I brought back with me. All while listening to Christmas music. And afterwards? We divulged ourselves in the wonderful world of Christmas movie classics!

What a perfect start to our last two weeks together! Time to gear up and get down to business!

My Day in Blackberry Media

Tomorrow is our last day of classes before Thanksgiving Break so people around campus are either extremely stressed about last minute assignments or extremely relaxed. Thanks to our “Homework Weekend,” we are the later of the two.

So, following the conclusion of our classes today, we decided to take a little car ride. No destination, just a car ride and some Taylor Swift. We ended up at Dunkin’ Donuts where I indulged in my first pumpkin muffin of the year—yummy!!

M wasn’t dressed in proper attire at the moment and ended up leaving in slippers, without her jacket. We love her anyway.

My yummy muffins!!

Our only stipulation about our drive was that we were back for part two of Oprah’s last Favorite Things show. And oh me, oh my was it a good episode.

Below is my roomie’s reaction of Oprah’s very last favorite thing.

Then later this evening, T and I were practicing our Comm speeches we’re giving tomorrow to M. M wasn’t the best audience member, however, and wanted to see how closely she she could resemble the baby on my first slide.

Tomorrow, I’ll be posting from my house…bring on the turkeys and babies!!

HP Premiere

Tonight is the night. Harry Potter premiere night. The Quad and I have our tickets for the midnight showing.

And while I enjoyed the books and the movies, I don't mind waiting a few more hours and seeing the movie at a more convenient time. But M can’t wait; she’s positive she would combust if she wasn’t one of the first to see Daniel Radcliffe in all his Harry Potter glory.

So we’ll be off to Hburg to join in on all the HP mania.

But before we do, T has already told me that we’ll be napping in preparation for our extremely late night.

So here’s to what’s likely to be a crazy adventure!

Anyone else seeing HP opening weekend?

Leaves of Thanks

In the midst of tests, papers, and speech-giving, I can still find some time to come up with crafts for the Quad to do. It’s the elementary school teacher in me.

T already had her childhood turkey creation for our Thanksgiving door display.

But how about a leaf collection of everything we’re thankful for?

untitled-0023

In the midst of chaos, it’s nice to reflect on everything we have to be thankful for this year---because there’s a lot we’re thankful for this year. Just look at all those beautiful fall leaves!

Some of them you’d expect…

And others…well they say a lot about who lives here!

Meet My Roomie

8

You see that girl?

The one with the sunglasses on top of her head and the goofy grin across her face?

That would be my roomie, T. We didn’t start out the year as roomies (she lived across the hall from me), but through a twist of fate, we ended up together a month into the year.

And we’re pretty much inseparable now. So much so that I’m pretty sure we’re becoming one person. We say the same exact thing at the same exact time, multiple times throughout the day (we think the same thing even more than that!).

We laugh like it’s no one’s business (mostly because we both do some pretty stupid stuff) and have to stop and catch our breath on quite a few occasions. We have to shut up long enough for the other person to get a word in because we’re known to be story tellers…and master story tellers at that. We’re also quite loud. As in other people on our floor have said we’re the loudest. Yeah, it’s bad.

We’re the only two in the Quad who are always in good moods (always being 95% of the time) and we keep our little group hoping. We’re quite the tag team.

She’s the other half to my equation. Or as she likes to say, we’re the glue to this arts and craft project (aka as the Quad).

And so ends the post on my roomie T.

Many-Things-Monday

1. Every Sunday, I make it a point to visit PostSecret. This week’s theme is Soldiers’ Secrets. You can bet that I cried when I watched the video sharing all the secret postcards  that had been collected. The one about the woman finding a new man…oh my, sent me right over the edge.

2. Each semester here at BC we are required to attend a total of 7 convos. Each week there are about three convo opportunities that we can go to and get credit for. There are all kinds of convos! A few I’ve attended so far have been a showing of Coraline and a discussion afterwards, a debate about marijuana, and a presentation by the Las Vegas coroner who works with CSI.

Each Monday we get an e-mail detailing the specifics of that week’s convos. Was I surprised when I opened the e-mail to find that All My Children actor, Brot Monroe, will be here at BC this week to talk about his tour in Iraq! I’m sooo very excited for this one :)

3. One of the best parts of BC is the fact that I have a small fitness center literally two feet outside of my dorm room. Forget walking across campus to The Funk (our fitness center); I’ve got treadmills, bicycles, and Stairmasters at my fingertips.

But last week, as E and I were taking a nightly stroll around campus, we ventured into The Funk. It was then that I might have had my greatest idea ever, racquetball! I love it!

4. I think my roommate (and fellow Quad member) might be going crazy. Just kidding, I love her…but sometimes she makes me wonder. This morning, after I woke up, she told me that when she rolled over in the wee hours of the morning, she had been petting the top of my head. (You see our beds form an L-shape and our heads are near each other.)

So now I’m considering sending her to a mental institution…just kidding. I might have to try restraining her at night, though.

How was your Monday?

Decorating Time!

Between coming home for Thanksgiving Break and leaving for Christmas break, the Quad and I will only have about two weeks together to celebrate the holidays.

So we started celebrating tonight with a few easy-to-do crafts.

I’m sure there will be lots more Christmas cheer being spread across the BC campus in the weeks to come!
