The Gossip Girl's Fashion

Gossip Girl and I are best friends; she just doesn’t know it yet.

Monday nights: Chuck Bass, NYC, music, fashion, Dan Humphrey, and um, did I mention Chuck Bass?! Can’t get much better than that, right?

Oh, but it can!

During the season premiere, all the lovely viewers were introduced to the sly and styling Juliet. Initially I was not her biggest fan; sneaking around, snapping pictures, and with a creepy brother to boot? No thanks. And then there was the fact that she was messing with my favorite people!

Her fashion sense, however, has definitely not been something to scoff at. From the dresses to the Tiffany’s jewelry, Miss Juliet has been rocking the runway style like it’s her job.

It wasn’t until last night that Juliet’s secret was revealed: wear and return.

Or more specifically, this little gem—Rent the Runway. Have you heard of it??

image

It’s as good as this little screenshot gets! Forget the super exclusive, nearly ridiculous prices of high fashion. For 90% off the straight-from-the-runway-dress’s original price, these pieces are yours to rent for your next big event.

There’s no monthly membership fee and each piece is dry-cleaned between rentals to ensure that you’re getting the best of the best.  When the team thinks the piece has begun to look a little worn, it’s pulled from their line—another way to keep you looking your best. They even allow you to pick two sizes of the dress to be shipped to your doorstep to guarantee that you’re getting the right fit. And to return your little number? It’s free!

And if you need any styling help, their stylists are always available at your fingertips!

Their website is stream-lined and easy-to-use all while being pleasing to the eye. Their dresses and accessories can easily be organized via designer, price, or event type. Easy peasy!

You’re getting top-quality fashion for a price that leaves your bank account a lot happier.

All these things that Gossip Girl can teach us!

(Side note: And for all you avid Gossip Girl watchers, I’m starting to warm up to Juliet. Although I will always love the “Core Four + Dan,” Serena does need to be reminded that the world does not revolve around her!)

The Key to . . . Cardigans and Camis

I’m a sucker for cardigans. They can be dressed up or dressed down. They can be worn over something, over something, or they can fly solo. Whether they’re striped, solid, polka-dotted or plaid; a cardigan is your best friend!

This week I wore cardigans three times. Yes, out of five days, three days I wore cardigans…and I loved every minute of it.

On Tuesday, I wore a pretty grey one with yellow stripes from Target.

On Thursday, I wore a pretty tan one with the cutest flowers you ever saw on the shoulder. This cardigan would be my first Fashion Friday star!!

The lovely cardigan was worn with a pretty, brown cami, straight legged jeans and brown flats. The cardigan, cami and flats all came from the one and only, Old Navy. The jeans, from Chico’s.

I wore a gold bracelet and hair clip to hold back my ever-growing bangs. And I wore my usual, garnet ring, too. I know, I know, mixing the metals. But sometimes it works :)

And on Friday, I wore another Old Navy find. A slimming black sweater, with pretty ruffles.

Oh, how I love cardigans! The flowers, the ruffles, the colors. So pretty, so feminine, so me!

The Key to . . . The Coolest Thing Since Skype

The double blizzards two weeks ago put a cramp in my FBLA style. Not only did it completely ruin our chapter’s national FBLA week fun and festivities, but it also forced us to become even more technologically savvy. I’m a part of a trio (the only girl again this year!), that makes up our school’s Partnership with Business team. It requires a 30 page written report and speeches on the state and national levels.

Since we couldn’t get out of our driveway, let alone get to a common meeting place, we did the next best thing---we Wiggio-ed!

I’m sure thanks to Oprah, many of you know about Skype…but have you ever heard of Wiggio?? It’s basically the same concept-- video chat and IMing for free. The definite upside, however, is that you don’t have to download any software. Just join, start a group, e-mail invites for a meeting, and you instantly have access to Wiggio plus great tools like screen sharing and a whiteboard.

Which as you can see from the picture, was how we ended one of our “meetings”.

Time after Time

if you're lost you can look--and you will find me
time after time
if you fall I will catch you--I'll be waiting
time after time

Time After Time, Quietdrive (It’s a pretty great remix)

All the likes. The text talk. The talking fast. It’s the crutch of the children of the ‘90s.

My mom always gets on me about talking way too fast. I think it’s something about our generation. We’re too busy (or at least we think we are) to slow down and speak. But I’ve gotta take Lorelai Gilmore’s position on it, “Life’s short. Talk fast.”  So I do, I talk fast. And so do about 99% of my friends. But we don’t think we talk fast. Have you ever played Mad Gab before? That must be what we sound like to other people.

What am I getting at?? Nothing really. Mad Gab is simply just one of the things that we did Saturday night (Aren’t you glad that you just read the last paragraph?).

It’s competition time for varsity cheer (a post soon to come) so Saturday night, Ashley P. (the kitty giver), Brooklyn, Taylor and I donned our SHS shirts—I wore my SHS Cheer Sister one and they wore their new, handmade, We <3 Bekah and Alyssa tees— with our matching, monogrammed bows that I made, to cheer on our favorites, Miss Hannah’s sister, Bekah, and our biological friend, Alyssa. We made posters and made an adventure out of it…yes, there was a mixed tape. It was a rainy and a dark ride going speeds that I dare not write for fear of my mother’s eyes. But we got there, safe and sound, right as the competition started. Our girls ended up the night’s winners, but that’s a post for a later date. The competition was just the beginning of the night Brooklyn dubbed, the Cheerathon.

As Taylor and Ashley headed back their way, to get ready for the night to come, Brooklyn and I straggled behind in hopes of picking up coffee from McDonald’s. So we arrived at our McDonald’s, 10:30 encroaching, rain pouring. We pull up to the box to order. No voice asking us our order for five minutes. We order. Pull up to the window. No man for five minutes. It was hysterical, yet infuriating. (It wasn’t until we reached Ashley’s house and Brooklyn pulled out a fish fillet instead of a chicken sandwich that it got really good—she ended up calling them!)

And then we waited for Alyssa, our biological, cheer friend to arrive. Brooklyn and Taylor—of course—had to serenade her at the door with a banjo.

Then, after cookies, pizza, and a batch of prom pictures from last year, we settled in to watch Fired Up. All snuggled up together, the five of us, on one couch. Plus two dogs. And just as the movie (which had funny parts, but overall was stupid) was ending, it was time for Twister, Mad Gab, and DDR.

And then, all of a sudden it was 3:30. So we fought over couches. And before we knew it, it was 8:30 and time to get up for church and a day of homework. Isn’t it crazy how fast time flies?? So, back to my original rambling, life’s short, talk fast.

Can I just take this moment to say just how wonderful these girls are?? (This also includes Aubrie and Liz who were missing that night). Taylor’s always ready to attack me with hugs when I get into class—today she ran down the hallway when she saw me. Same for Brooklyn, who’s always there to make us laugh, even when she’s not in the mood. And Ashley. You already know how great she is; she got someone a cat (and she hosted our first, of many, shindigs!)

Oh ... no headbands in college. ‘Kay?

Instead of a song, I felt the words of Dan Humphrey made my point quite nicely. I have just a few months left to get in all my bow and headband wearing days…or not.

Ever since I wandered into the ribbon aisle at Michael’s I have become a bow making fool. Any kind, every kind. White. Black. Orange. Yellow. Polka dots. Stripes. Big bows. Little bows. Extreme bows…as Aubrie likes to call them. And then, Mr. Glue Gun and I embarked into a whole new world--headbands! Monogrammed headbands. Bejeweled headbands. Argyle headbands.

Dan Humphrey might think NYU means an end to headbands, but he’s never used a glue gun before!

She Used to Tie Her Hair Up In Ribbons

And bows, sign her letters with X's and O's
Got a picture of her mama in heels and pearls
She's tryin’ to make it in her daddy's world
She's an American girl
An American girl

X’s and O’s (American Girl), Trisha Yearwood

It’s that time of year again; well for cheer families anyway. The beginning of school also signals the beginning of football and cheer. And for a county whose main sport is football, and for a school who’s been undefeated (until last year) for four years, cheer is huge.

While I’m not the cheerleader, Bekah is, and so that makes me- the cheer sister. What does the term “cheer sister” mean you ask? It means I am forced to listen to never ending conversations about: form, practice, games, other girls’ form, stunts, tumble times, cheer moms’, and then it’s all repeated the next day.

We’d had our bows and ribbons in our baby days, but once again I’m thrust into the world of cheer hair. So today I was given the duty of driving Bekah into Michael’s and grabbing some ribbons. And that was when I came up with the most brilliant idea; don’t just get ribbons…make bows! I mean, how hard can it possibly be?!? With Miss Polka Dot's crafty posts lately I was all for the challenge. I grabbed some more glue for the hot glue gun and some barrettes and sat down to watch Elvis & Annabelle while trying my new craft.

And let me tell you after almost five hours I’ve only gotten two modest looking bows, but I’m definitely doing it again! I think with some cheap headbands and some colorful ribbons I could definitely have some new accessories just in time for the new school year—I might even try some flowers (much to Bekah’s disapproval!)
