I Am . . . Listening to Old Music

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done my momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends that love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

                              Who I Am, Jessica Andrews

Do you ever flip on the radio or pop in an old CD to be greeted with songs of days gone bye?

On our ride to school Friday, we switched up our musical selection from the Christmas music it’s been since Dec. 1 to an old, old CD. It was, in fact, Jessica Andrew’s second CD, Who I Am, circa 1999.

As soon as the first song began—Now I Know—it was like being visited by an old friend. The melody and lyrics reminded me of memory after memory of the other times I’d listened to the CD. For me, Jessica Andrews was like the T. Swiftster of the 90’s; she was one of the first teenage female singers in country music during the 90’s, moms didn’t mind their daughters listening to her music…though listening to her CDs, now, I finally understand the lyrics versus just singing them.

Besides N’Sync and Brittney Spears, she was—to me recollection--the first CDs I ever asked for.Rebekah, so kindly, reminded me of all the times we played karaoke to Jessica and even choreographed some dances. I also remember pretending to be her and being in a recording studio…yeah, I had a pretty active imagination.

While, when compared to every other artist I’ve ever listened to, there isn’t really anything more awesome or different about Jessica, I couldn’t help but listen to the CD about three more times on Friday…and I am listening to it right now, too :)

Whose the first artist or what the first tape/CD/record you remember buying?
