Everyday, it’s a-gettin’ closer

Everyday it's a-gettin' closer
Goin' faster than a roller coaster
Love like yours will surely come my way
A-hey, a-hey-hey

                            Everyday, Buddy Holly

Now I’m a holiday person. I love the rooms a 100 degrees because everyone is scrunched into tiny rooms. I love the laughter, the food, and the noisy chaos. Because, to me, it’s love.

But, at the same time, holidays like Turkey Day and Mother’s Day and Christmas (and on and on and on) can really irk me. I’m not saying that I don’t think we should be extremely thankful for what unfolded on the very first Thanksgiving or that we shouldn’t dote on our mothers in May, but why must we only celebrate once a year? Why do we let Hallmark (I love Hallmark cards so I’m knocking them!) and the media give us tunnel vision when it comes to holidays?

Why can’t we say “I Love You, Mom” on a Tuesday when your Mom ends up late to work because she brought you a forgotten homework assignment? Or be thankful every day for the hot water in the morning shower or the clothes in our closets? The answer: we should be!

We should love on our parents every day! We should be thankful for our blessings every day! We should remind ourselves of the military men and women overseas away from their families every day!

So over the next year, I’m going to try and remove the holidays from there block on the calendar and add them to my schedule every day!
