Time after Time

if you're lost you can look--and you will find me
time after time
if you fall I will catch you--I'll be waiting
time after time

Time After Time, Quietdrive (It’s a pretty great remix)

All the likes. The text talk. The talking fast. It’s the crutch of the children of the ‘90s.

My mom always gets on me about talking way too fast. I think it’s something about our generation. We’re too busy (or at least we think we are) to slow down and speak. But I’ve gotta take Lorelai Gilmore’s position on it, “Life’s short. Talk fast.”  So I do, I talk fast. And so do about 99% of my friends. But we don’t think we talk fast. Have you ever played Mad Gab before? That must be what we sound like to other people.

What am I getting at?? Nothing really. Mad Gab is simply just one of the things that we did Saturday night (Aren’t you glad that you just read the last paragraph?).

It’s competition time for varsity cheer (a post soon to come) so Saturday night, Ashley P. (the kitty giver), Brooklyn, Taylor and I donned our SHS shirts—I wore my SHS Cheer Sister one and they wore their new, handmade, We <3 Bekah and Alyssa tees— with our matching, monogrammed bows that I made, to cheer on our favorites, Miss Hannah’s sister, Bekah, and our biological friend, Alyssa. We made posters and made an adventure out of it…yes, there was a mixed tape. It was a rainy and a dark ride going speeds that I dare not write for fear of my mother’s eyes. But we got there, safe and sound, right as the competition started. Our girls ended up the night’s winners, but that’s a post for a later date. The competition was just the beginning of the night Brooklyn dubbed, the Cheerathon.

As Taylor and Ashley headed back their way, to get ready for the night to come, Brooklyn and I straggled behind in hopes of picking up coffee from McDonald’s. So we arrived at our McDonald’s, 10:30 encroaching, rain pouring. We pull up to the box to order. No voice asking us our order for five minutes. We order. Pull up to the window. No man for five minutes. It was hysterical, yet infuriating. (It wasn’t until we reached Ashley’s house and Brooklyn pulled out a fish fillet instead of a chicken sandwich that it got really good—she ended up calling them!)

And then we waited for Alyssa, our biological, cheer friend to arrive. Brooklyn and Taylor—of course—had to serenade her at the door with a banjo.

Then, after cookies, pizza, and a batch of prom pictures from last year, we settled in to watch Fired Up. All snuggled up together, the five of us, on one couch. Plus two dogs. And just as the movie (which had funny parts, but overall was stupid) was ending, it was time for Twister, Mad Gab, and DDR.

And then, all of a sudden it was 3:30. So we fought over couches. And before we knew it, it was 8:30 and time to get up for church and a day of homework. Isn’t it crazy how fast time flies?? So, back to my original rambling, life’s short, talk fast.

Can I just take this moment to say just how wonderful these girls are?? (This also includes Aubrie and Liz who were missing that night). Taylor’s always ready to attack me with hugs when I get into class—today she ran down the hallway when she saw me. Same for Brooklyn, who’s always there to make us laugh, even when she’s not in the mood. And Ashley. You already know how great she is; she got someone a cat (and she hosted our first, of many, shindigs!)
